Electric rear-wheel hub motor: the core power for driving heavy loads and urban commuting
As a key driving system for electric bicycles, freight vehicles and urban commuter vehicles, electric rear-wheel hub motors have developed rapidly in recent years under the trend of smart travel and green transportation. Compared with mid-mounted motors or front-wheel drive systems, rear-wheel hub motors have the advantages of direct torque output, efficient transmission, simple wiring, and controllable costs. They are especially suitable for urban road conditions with ramp climbing, heavy-load transportation, and frequent start-stop.
The rear-wheel hub motor has efficient power transmission, good climbing ability, strong structural stability, and convenient installation and maintenance. The power output of the rear-wheel hub motor directly acts on the vehicle drive wheel, eliminating intermediate links such as chains and drive shafts, reducing power transmission, and improving the utilization rate of lost energy. The rear wheel usually carries a larger proportion of the vehicle's load, so arranging the motor at the rear wheel can better play its power advantage. Most rear-wheel motors are designed with complex terrain and heavy-load transportation needs in mind, and often have greater peak torque. The rear wheel is not only the load center, but also the drive wheel. This arrangement is conducive to exerting stronger power during climbing or starting, and reducing the risk of slipping.
The rear wheel hub motor is easier to integrate with the multi-speed system in structure, and has higher system integration and flexibility. When used with the transmission, the vehicle can obtain the most suitable torque/speed output under different slopes and road conditions. The modular integrated structure of the rear wheel hub motor is convenient for batch assembly and post-service. Most motors are directly integrated with the rear wheel axle group. The standard opening design can quickly adapt to the mainstream frame. The wiring logic between the motor and the controller and battery is simple, supporting fast plug-in and maintenance.

The D-Type Thru Axle is designed for lightweight e-MTB and Gravel models, with a 2.4kg motor (including flywheel), a 148mm straight-through shaft structure, 250W power and 50Nm peak torque, supports torque sensors, and provides smooth power response.
